Continuing our efforts on Bridging the Digital Divide project and also promoting early digital education, VG Foundation collaborated with the Leo Club of Kathmandu Budigandaki, and organized a three-day computer education session at Koseli School in Shantinagar for students from grades one to five. The program combined both theoretical instruction and practical learning, helping students gain a well-rounded understanding of computer basics. They learned about the essential components of a computer, their functions, and how each part works together. This introduction laid a strong foundation for the hands-on lessons that followed, allowing the children to confidently interact with computers and discover their creative and academic potential.
In the MS Paint session, the computer lab transformed into a lively studio where imagination met technology. Students were taught how to use different tools such as the pencil, brush, fill color, shape, and text features to create their own digital artwork. They experimented with colors and patterns, learning to draw, fill, and design using the various functions within the software. From colorful houses and trees to imaginative scenes and characters, each student expressed their creativity on screen. The joy on their faces as they explored new tools and techniques reflected their excitement in learning how art and technology can come together.
They were then introduced to Microsoft Word on the third day, where they learned to type, format text, insert shapes, and decorate their documents with borders and colors. These activities helped them in their typing and formatting skills and also helped them understand how digital tools can enhance communication and presentation. The students participated in every task, helping each other and proudly sharing their completed work. The classroom, once filled with the chatter of young voices, now buzzed with the rhythmic clicking of keyboards as they explored their new skills.
By the end of the three day session, the students had gained not only foundational computer knowledge but also a sense of confidence and enthusiasm for learning through technology. For many, it was their first time working with technology, and yet their enthusiasm and adaptability made every moment worthwhile. VG Foundation hopes that this experience will motivate the students to continue exploring the digital world with curiosity, confidence, and imagination, turning every new skill into a step toward their brighter future.
