Since the second week of Poush, cold waves and extreme winter have made daily life very hard for poor and marginalized families. After a news report highlighted this problem, warm blankets were distributed to elderly people, helpless individuals, and persons with disabilities from poor Musahar families in two local areas of Siraha district.
After Naya Patrika published a news story on 15 Poush about the suffering of poor families due to cold, VG Foundation distributed total 70 warm blankets where one blanket was provided to each 70 people from the Musahar community. Among them, 45 people were from Patna village of Sakhuwa Nankarkatti Rural Municipality–2, and 25 people were from Dhanjhawar village of Laxmipur Patari Rural Municipality–4. The Foundation said the blankets were given to help vulnerable people stay safe during the cold.
Tetari Devi Saday, a 53-year-old visually impaired woman from Dhanjhawar village, said she was very happy. She shared that the warm blanket would help her sleep better at night during the cold winter. “It is warm during the day, but nights are very cold,” she said. “This blanket will help us stay warm.”
The blanket distribution program was completed on Wednesday afternoon in Patna village with the support of representatives from NIC Asia Bank Lahan Branch (BM Mr. Lekhraj Paudel and his team), local community members, journalists and a local teacher Ramsufal Yadav helped coordinate the program.
VG Foundation appreciates Naya Partika and Ratopati for publishing this news “Blankets Distributed to Musahar Families Affected by Cold in Siraha” on their websites.
