A Childhood of Responsibility: VG Foundation Supports Three Siblings in Siraha

July 10, 2026

An 8-year-old boy, Shekhar Yadav from Dandaa, Golbazar Municipality – Siraha, has become the primary caregiver for his two younger sisters after his mother left home two years ago and his father has been missing for the past months.

Despite being only in Grade 3, Shekhar wakes up every morning, bathes and prepares his sisters for school, carries his 3-year-old sister on his back, holds the hand of his 5-year-old sister, and takes them to school before attending his own classes. He also cooks, cleans, washes clothes, and looks after them at home. The three children currently live with their uncle and aunt, who provide shelter and care but face severe financial hardship. Their school has been helping with clothes, soap, and other basic necessities, while teachers continue to support the children.

Local ward officials have described the family’s situation as highly sensitive and said they are preparing to provide assistance, particularly for the children’s education, healthcare, and protection. The story highlights the extraordinary responsibility carried by a young child and the urgent need for community and government support.

Recognizing their urgent needs, VG Foundation extended its support by providing:

  • Two pairs of full clothing sets and shoes for each child, ensuring they no longer have to walk barefoot to school.
  • Food supplies sufficient for three months, helping ease the financial burden on the family and ensuring the children have access to regular meals.

This support program was successfully coordinated with the valuable assistance of NIC Asia Bank, Golbazar Branch, Siraha, under the leadership of Mr. Md. Sadav Perwej and his dedicated team. Their coordination played a vital role in ensuring the timely delivery of support to the children.

VG Foundation also extends its sincere gratitude to Online Khabar for covering this initiative and helping bring attention to the importance of supporting vulnerable children through responsible journalism.
